54 AIR FORCE CADETS COMMISSIONED INTO THE GHANA ARMED FORCES
Fifty-four (54) Air Force cadets were among the 256 officer cadets commissioned into the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) at a graduation parade held at the Ghana Military Academy on Friday, 30 January 2026. The graduates comprised cadets from Regular Career Course 64, Short Service Commission, and Special Duties Course 62.

The ceremony was attended by the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, the Acting Minister for Defence, Honourable Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, Minister for the Interior, Honourable Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, the Chief of the Defence Staff, Lieutenant General William Agyapong, Service Chiefs as well as serving and retired senior military officers.

In his address, President Mahama congratulated the newly commissioned officers on their dedication and commitment and urged them to uphold the values and principles of the Ghana Armed Forces. He emphasised the role of the Armed Forces in maintaining national security and highlighted the importance of professionalism and discipline in safeguarding the nation.

The President stated that strengthening the operational readiness of the Ghana Armed Forces remains a priority, noting that government is investing in modern equipment, advanced training and improved welfare to address security challenges such as terrorism, piracy and cross-border crime. He also announced plans to acquire new helicopters to enhance air mobility and the rapid response capabilities of the Ghana Air Force.

On infrastructure, President Mahama disclosed that work would commence on the construction of 2,000 housing units for the Ghana Armed Forces, as part of a broader plan to provide 10,000 housing units over the next five years.

He further drew attention to rising security threats within the sub-region and called on citizens, traditional authorities, civil society and government institutions to collaborate in supporting the security agencies to protect Ghana’s territorial integrity.
