6 GARRISON OBSERVES BREAST CANCER AWAERENESS MONTH

The 6 Garrison of the Ghana Armed Forces has observed World Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The programme was marked in three phases with a Health walk, Educational Talk and Breast Screening. 

 

 

This took place on Friday, 25 October 2024 concurrently at the Barwah Barracks and Camp Nyohini under the theme:"Screen Early, Live Longer, Join the Fight”.

 

 

The event brought together personnel of Air Force Base Tamale, Headquarters Northern Command, 6 Infantry Battalion and 69 Airborne Force, their families and some members of neighbouring communities to observe the awareness campaign.

 

 

The Senior Medical Officer at the 69 Airborne Force Medical Center, Flight Lieutenant Emmanuel Yenubenant Moiko educated the gathering on early signs, symptoms, risk factors, management and prevention. He underscored the importance of regular personal breast screening or examination at the hospital to ensure early detection which is crucial to survival of people affected.

 

 

The Northern Regional Manager of Services Integrity Savings and Loans, Mr Dauda Issaka who was the Special Guest, in his remarks stated that breast cancer is one of the commonest cancers and the second leading cause of cancer deaths globally.

 

 

He urged all to join in the fight against the dreadful disease that brings suffering to individuals, families and communities and together make the dream of eradicating it a reality.

 

 

The General Officer Commanding Northern Command, Brigadier General Frank Nartey Tei, in his address admonished personnel to take breast cancer education seriously and get tested since early detection and treatment saves lives. Additionally, he encouraged personnel to adopt healthy lifestyle habits to lessen the risks of getting the disease.
