79TH REMEMBRANCE DAY ANNIVERSARY COMMEMORATED
The Ghana Armed Forces together with other Security Services have commemorated the 79th Remembrance Day at the Christiansburg War Cemetery on Monday 11 November 2024.
The symbolic day formally known as Armistice Day was renamed Remembrance Day after World War II to remember those who lost their lives in both the First and Second World Wars.
Subsequently, countries of the Commonwealth including Ghana and other Non-Commonwealth Countries commemorated the day to remember and honour members of their armed forces and other security services who fell during the world wars and those who lost their lives in other conflicts, peacekeeping missions, among other official duties.
During the ceremony, wreaths were laid in honour of the fallen heroes. The National Security Minister, Hon Kan Dapaah laid a wreath on behalf of the Government and People of the Republic of Ghana.
The Chief of the Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Thomas Oppong-Peprah also laid a wreath on behalf of personnel of the Security Services and the Chairman, Veterans Administration Ghana, Major General Clayton Boanuba Yaache (rtd) laid one on behalf of all veterans. The Osu Alata Mantse, Nii Kwabena Bonney also laid a wreath on behalf of the Traditional Council.
The Ceremony was witnessed by Ministers of State, Service Chiefs, Traditional Leaders as well as serving and retired security personnel.
