A two-weeks Aeromedical Evacuation Course organised by a team from the Defense Institute for Medical Operations (DIMO) for Ghana Armed Forces medical personnel has commenced at the Ghana Air Force Aviation College (GHFAC) on Monday 26 February 2024.

Twenty participants drawn from the 37 Military Hospital, Aircrew and Technicians from the Air Force Base Accra are expected to partake in the training programme.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Director Training, General Headquarters Medical, Colonel George Boamah commended the DIMO team for the initiative. He further urged participants to put in their maximum effort to expand their knowledge base in the life saving techniques to reduce preventable casualties when confronted with such issues.

In an interview with the leader of the DIMO team, Lt Col Melissa Hendricks, she stated that the training programme is designed to prepare Ghana to seek the United Nations validation for Aeromedical Evacuation Training (AMET) certification. She added that, the AMET certification would allow the country to have policies, procedures, self-sufficient training capacity and sustainable capacity in Aeromedical Evacuation.

Lt Col Hendricks highlighted that participants over the two weeks would be taken through topics such as Medical Mission Planning, Flight Safety, Tactical Combat Casualty Care among others. 

DIMO is the International Education Exportable Division within the International and Expeditionary Education and Training Department of the United States Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine (USAFSAM). Their mission is to be the premier provider of security, cooperation, focused health education and training that builds strong and resilient international partnership.
