AFB-TAK CROWNED WINNERS OF MAIDEN 2 GARRISON INTER-SERVICE MENTAL HEALTH QUIZ

Air Force Base Takoradi has been crowned winners of the maiden 2 Garrison Inter-Service Mental Health quiz held at the Western Naval Command (WNC), Sekondi on Thursday, 10 October 2024.

The quiz was aimed at commemorating the world mental health day and creating awareness on the need for personnel to prioritise mental health.

The competition was in four stages. At the first stage, competitors were quizzed on general knowledge of the Garrison. This was followed by questions on mental health, a debate on the topic: "Is it important to prioritize mental health at the work place?" and the last part was a demonstration on mental health awareness.

At the end of the keenly contested competition which saw a tie between the 2 Infantry Battalion and the Western Naval Command, Air Force Base Takoradi was adjudged the winner with 89 points. The 2 Infantry Battalion of the Ghana Army broke the tie with 88 points, placing second while the Western Naval Command of the Ghana Navy held the third position with 87 points.

Speaking on behalf of the Flag Officer Commanding, Western Naval Command (FOC WNC), Commodore Emmanuel Ayesu Kwafo, the Flag Officer Fleet (FOF), Commodore Samuel Ayelazono in his remarks expressed his profound gratitude to the Garrison Psychologist for the initiative to educate personnel on the subject. He noted that it was the right time for personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces to take better care of their mental health as much as their physical health.

Therefore, he charged personnel to seek help from mental health professionals whenever they have issues, adding that the Chief of the Defence Staff has shown great  commitment to the sound mental health and general wellness of personnel.

He thanked the contestants for their outstanding performance and recommended that the event be held regularly to improve the mental health of personnel under command.
