AIR FORCE BASE TAKORADI HOLDS MEN’S MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS SEMINAR ON ANXIETY, DEPRESSION AND STRESS MANAGEMENT FOR AWO

The Air Force Base Takoradi (AFB TAK) has held a Men’s Mental Health Awareness Seminar on Anxiety, Depression and Stress Management for the Air Wives Organization (AWO) at the Junior Ranks Mess on Saturday 24 August 2024.

In his opening remarks, the Gender Focal Point Officer, Flight Lieutenant Wise Atisu indicated that following the recent Ghana Armed Forces Men’s Mental Health Week that was celebrated, Command decided that talks on Men’s mental Health should be replicated at all Bases for both personnel and their spouses.

It is in the light of this that the seminar has been organised for members of the AWO who are major stakeholders when it comes to Men’s Mental Health. He added that the purpose therefore for the seminar is to create the awareness of the various issues that affect Men’s Mental Health and the role wives should play to ensure their own proper mental health, that of their husbands and their families as a whole.

Lieutenant (GN) Ewuradjoa Kumi-Kyreme, Garrison Psychologist and Resource Person, in her remarks underscored the stressful nature of military life and its attendant challenges. She asked the wives to be patient with their husbands especially during challenging and difficult times.

She added that, it was important for Air wives to be each other’s keeper and seek the welfare of one another. She said that since they lived in the same communities, they must assist their female neighbors who may be going through difficult times in their marriages by introducing them to qualified clinical Psychologists.

She also advised them to desist from misinforming the public and or authorities on matters concerning married couples as it may escalate matters and create more confusion between married couples.

Participants seized the opportunity to ask questions and cleared all their doubts.
