AIR FORCE BASE TAMALE HOLDS END OF YEAR WASSA

Air Force Base Tamale has held its end of year West African Soldiers Social Activity (WASSA) in a grand style on Friday 29 December 2023. 

 

 

 

The Base Commander, Air Commodore (Air Cdre) Joshua Mensah-Larkai in his welcome address stated that WASSA was a time to take stock and reflect on the achievements, challenges and set new targets for the coming year. He commended personnel for their commitment, dedication and hard work throughout the year. Air Cdre Mensah-Larkai also extended his appreciation to all sponsors and partners of the Base for their contribution and support over the period. 

 

 

In a speech read by the Chief Staff Officer, Air Cdre Eric Yirenkyi on behalf of the Guest of Honour, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Frederick Asare Kwasi Bekoe, he stated that the year 2023 had been an eventful one. He said despite limited resources, the Ghana Air Force carried out its duties effectively and efficiently. He noted that the Tamale Base's commitment to excellence had propelled them forward, maintaining an unwavering efficiency.

 

 

He further added that the Base’s successful participation in exercises such as Eagle Claws, Flintlock and African Lion was a testament to their operational readiness and proficiency.

 

AVM Bekoe further stated that all the on-going accommodation projects would be completed on schedule in order to alleviate the current accommodation challenges. He also stated that the Air Force Leadership Academy would be inaugurated in due time to help nurture and build the capacities of Airmen.

 

 

Certain individuals and teams were awarded for their outstanding contributions to the Base during the year. These included the Petroleum Oil and Lubricants and the Beautification and Police teams.

 

 

 

A special award was given to WOII Kuze Mathew who was attached to Operation Maida Buuri for exhibiting exceptional bravery and commitment. Additionally, awards were given to the Administration and the Engineering Wing for placing first and second respectively during the End of Year Inter -Wings Quiz Competition.

 

 

 

In attendance were the Northern Regional Minister, Honourable Alhassan Shani Shaibu, the Chief Director at the Northern Regional Coordinating Council, Alhaji Alhassan Issahaku, the General Officer Commanding Northern Command, Brig Gen Matthew Essien, Senior Officers within the Garrison and representatives of traditional rulers within the Tamale Metropolis.
