A candle light vigil was held on Tuesday, 5 December 2023 at the Air Force Base Takoradi to honour the memory of the late Base Commander, Air Commodore (Air Cdre) Godfried Sackey Parker.

Speaking to a gathering of personnel, family and friends of Air Cdre Parker, the Acting Base Commander, Group Captain (Gp Capt) Selase Yaya Agbenyefia eulogised the wonderful persona of the late Base Commander as a charismatic leader who would forever be missed. She said that in the midst of their collective grieve, they should find solace in the profound comradeship that united them.

Gp Capt Agbenyefia added that the flickering candle flames that were before them symbolised not only an enduring remembrance, but also the internal spirit that intertwined their lives which represented the lasting impact that the late Base Commander had in everyone’s life.

The Acting Base Commander asked the gathering to affirm the shared commitment to preserve the honour and legacy of the departed Commander. She also prayed that the Holy Spirit would comfort and strengthen the wife and family of Air Cdre Parker in their moment of grief.

Gp Capt Agbenyefia also thanked personnel for their support and encouraged them to carry on with the mantle of the late Commander’s spirit as a guiding light in the pursuit of the mission.

Dignitaries present were also given the opportunity to immortalise and share fond memories of their encounter with the late Base Commander.
