The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) William Agyapong, has officially opened the maiden CDS Seminar with Generals of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) at The Palms by Eagle Hotel in Accra on Tuesday 29 September 2026.

The 5-day event, which spans from Sunday 27 September to Thursday 1 October 2026, convenes senior military officers under the theme "Adaptive Leadership in a Complex Security Environment: The Role of Generals in Shaping Ghana’s Future." The seminar provides a dedicated platform to deliberate on strategic leadership, institutional growth, and emerging security challenges confronting Ghana and the wider sub-region.

In his opening remarks , Lt Gen Agyapong highlighted the historic nature of the gathering, framing it as an invaluable opportunity for reflection, dialogue, and perspective-sharing among seasoned senior military officers. He reminded the participants of their fundamental duty in safeguarding  military traditions and maintaining professional standards while actively shaping the institution's future through candid, constructive engagement.

The seminar’s curriculum is structured to revisit critical aspects of military command and administration. Core topics of discussion include intelligence handling and classified information, military justice, retirement and release procedures, past command experiences and contemporary defence issues requiring integrated planning and a unified strategic vision.

Lt Gen Agyapong concluded his remarks by stressing the necessity of continuous learning and adaptation in the modern defense landscape. He urged the general officer corps to remain steadfast in their commitment to duty, integrity, discipline, and selfless service throughout the convention and in their ongoing leadership roles.
