CHIEF OF THE AIR STAFF PAYS MAIDEN VISIT TO AIR FORCE BASE TAKORADI

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Eric Agyen-Frempong, paid his maiden visit to Air Force Base Takoradi on Monday, 23 June 2025.

During a durbar with all ranks, AVM Agyen-Frempong outlined his vision for the Ghana Air Force to become a technologically relevant, mission-ready force capable of defending Ghana’s airspace while supporting national development and contributing to regional security. He emphasized the need for highly motivated personnel committed to excellence.

He reiterated that the core mandate of the Air Force is to safeguard Ghana’s airspace and effectively address modern threats. This, he noted, is in line with the Constitution of Ghana. To fulfill this mandate, the CAS emphasized the need for the Force to proactively address emerging challenges, including environmental issues such as illegal mining (galamsey) and the threat of jihadist movements from Burkina Faso.

AVM Agyen-Frempong stated that transforming the Ghana Air Force into a highly adaptable and effective force remains a top priority. He highlighted ongoing structural reforms initiated by his predecessor and shared progress on establishing a new Air Force Base at Bui as part of the transformation drive.

He acknowledged existing fleet gaps but assured personnel that efforts are underway to modernize and enhance capabilities. Despite economic challenges, he noted that government is committed to refurbishing existing aircraft and acquiring new platforms, including rotary-wing aircraft, medium-lift capabilities, and Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) assets.

As part of the visit, AVM Agyen-Frempong and his delegation inspected key projects including new accommodation at the Old Training School, Studio Block A, and the runway.
