FLIGHT LIEUTENANT BISMARK ASARE RECEIVES GRNMA AWARD
The Deputy Chief Health Tutor at the 37 Military Hospital Nursing and Midwifery Training College, Flt Lt Bismark Asare won this year’s Col Vida Otto Military Nightingale Award Category at the 3rd National Annual Dinner and Awards Night of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) Awards Night held at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra on Friday December 16 2022.
 
 
Flt Lt Asare is a qualified Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Nurse and a member of the ENT Society of Ghana. He was the first Vice Principal to be appointed by the Ministry of Health for the ENT Nursing School at Kumasi from September 2011 to January 2018.
As an examiner for the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana, he has taught in many Nursing and Midwifery Training Institutions in Ghana and is currently the National Chairman of the ENT Nurses’ Group. He is the Deputy Secretary of Commissioned Nurses and Midwives Association of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and a member of the Socio-Economic and Welfare Committee of GRNMA.
He was the Chairman of the Admissions Committee of the 37 Military Hospital NMTC for the 2021/2022 admissions where he introduced a paperless admission interview process which made proceedings of interviews easier for admissions. He successfully led a team to review the Curriculums of the ENT School, Ophthalmic Nursing School and Public Health Nursing School for affiliation to the University of Cape Coast for the awarding of BSc Nursing in the various specialty areas. He also led a team to review the Nursing and Midwifery curriculum of the NMTC for reaccreditation in June 2020.
Earlier this year he received an award in the Association Strengthening Category during the 2nd Annual Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards organized by the Ministry of Health.
 
 
The National Annual Dinner and Awards Night was instituted by the Association in 2020. It was to recognize the immense contributions and dedication by nurses and midwives of the various health sectors across the country and also to motivate them to work harder in the coming years.
The President of the Association, Mrs Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo during her remarks disclosed that since the institution of the awards in 2020, there have been a remarkable improvement of service by nurses and midwives in health sectors across the country. She said that the health of patients are important to them and therefore recognize the relationship they have with their clients and their wish is always to deliver better services to them whenever they visit the hospital for care.
She emphasized that the World Health Organization (WHO) has given out some strategic directions that would be used by nurses and midwives throughout the world which would be implemented from next year.
A member of the Council of State and Paramount Chief of the Asante Juaben Traditional Area who was also the Special Guest of Honor for the occasion, Nana Otuo Siriboe ll said nurses play pivotal roles in the delivery of healthcare in the country and commended them for their effort during the COVID-19 pandemic.
He stated that despite the numerous challenges faced at the health facilities in the country such as lack of equipment, they continue to provide quality and dedicated healthcare to all. He commended the Association for organizing such an event for three consecutive years and said this will engender excellence in the coming years. He advised them to always be compassionate, fair, kind and professional in the discharge of their duties.
The Director of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr Patrich Kuma Aboagye who was the Guest of Honor in his address commended the award winners and all workers in the health sector who contributed to healthcare delivery in diverse ways during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019 and admonished them to work harder in their line of duty.
