The Ghana Air Force (GHAF) has set out a five-year plan to modernise its capabilities, improve operational readiness and expand its contribution to national security and regional stability.

The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Eric Agyen-Frempong, outlined the 2025–2030 strategy in a lecture delivered on his behalf by the Tamale Base Commander, Air Commodore Kwabena Kissiedu Manukure Atiemo during the Air Power week at the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC), Teshie, on Thursday, 29 October 2026.

The Chief of the Air Staff highlighted the Air Force’s contributions to national security, humanitarian assistance, disaster relief and international peace support operations. He noted that these contributions underscore the versatility of airpower in addressing conventional and evolving security threats.

He explained that the strategy is guided by the Ghana Air Force’s mission to provide airpower in support of Ghana’s national security and developmental objectives. He added that the plan also places significant emphasis on human capital development, including expanding accredited training programmes at the Ghana Air Force Aviation College, strengthening simulator-based training, improving technical certification and enhancing leadership competencies.

On operational effectiveness, Air Commodore Atiemo stated that the Ghana Air Force is pursuing infrastructure development, improved logistics systems and strengthened command arrangements across its operational areas. These measures are expected to enhance operational reach, improve national coverage, facilitate rapid deployment and ensure the sustainability of air operations.

By 2030, the Ghana Air Force aims to strengthen its capacity to safeguard Ghana’s airspace, support joint military operations and protect critical national infrastructure as well as making a meaningful contribution to regional peace and security, particularly across West Africa.
