INTERACTIVE SESSION ON STRESS MANAGEMENT HELD AT AFHQ

A Psychologist and Senior Instructor from the Ghana Air Force Aviation College, Mrs Olivia Mawutor has delivered a lecture to Personnel and Defence Civilian Staff at the Air Force Headquarters (AFHQ) on stress management.

The lecture which was held on Thursday 29 August 2024, focused on understanding stress, its causes, symptoms and the effects on Men’s Mental Health and their general well-being.

Mrs Mawutor explained that stress is often triggered by the overwhelming challenges in life of an individual including economic pressures and marital issues. These factors, she noted, can lead individuals developing stress-induced behaviors with serious implications on mental health.

During her lecture, she emphasised the importance of engaging in activities that help manage and reduce stress. “Going for walks, bike riding, yoga, hobbies and regular exercise are effective ways to alleviate stress,” she advised.

Mrs. Mawutor also highlighted the benefits of spending time with others, setting aside moments for enjoyment and setting realistic goals as additional strategies for managing stress.

She encouraged personnel not to shy away from seeking professional help from qualified medical experts when faced with overwhelming stress.

The interactive session also witnessed lively discussions with personnel asking questions and sharing personal experiences. This helped to dispel myths and provide further clarity on managing stress.
