STUDENTS OF GHFAC TOUR GHANA RADIO ASTRONOMY OBSERVATORY

The Avionics and Photo Reconnaissance Department of the Ghana Air Force Aviation College (GHFAC) has embarked on an educational trip to the Ghana Radio Astronomy Observatory (GRAO) on Friday, 15 November 2024. 

 

 

The purpose of the trip was to provide students with practical exposure to radio and electronic technologies and systems.

 

 

The trip was led by the Assistant Director, Engineering Training at the Air Force Headquarters Flight Lieutenant Reginald Nsowah and Chief Instructor—Mechanical Division at the college Flight Lieutenant Fred Frimpong Ampeh.  

 

 

Dr Naomi Asabre Frimpong and Dr Proven explained in their brief to the students that the establishment of the observatory is to help advance astronomy, education and scientific research and to broaden Ghana’s efforts to participate in global astronomy and space science initiatives adding that the conduct of research plays a critical role in national development.

 

 

Some key areas of concentration during the tour included weather monitoring, surveillance, communication and remote sensing and signal processing.

 

 

Safety officers took the group on a tour around the facility and simulated movement of some of the antennae of the station.
