TAKORADI AWO HOLDS BREAST CANCER AWARENESS DAY

The Takoradi Air Wives Organisation (AWO) has organised a breast cancer awareness programme under the theme, “Early Detection Effective Treatment” on Saturday, 14 October 2023 at the Medical Reception Station at the Air Force Base in Takoradi.

Speaking at the event, the Guest of Honour, Senior Patron of AWO, Mrs Rosette Okyere Bekoe who is the wife of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Frederick Asare Kwasi Bekoe, said that, breast cancer could affect any individual regardless of their status in life.

She noted that even though the disease was a relentless one, there was hope in its early detection. She therefore called for regular self- examination, the use of mammograms and other clinical check-ups to enhance early detection.

Mrs Bekoe advised the Air wives to prioritise their own health, take time for personal development and practice self-care.

She also urged the gathering to deepen the campaign and awareness creation on breast cancer by offering support and advocacy in their own small way. This she asserted would improve the group's ability to influence change and give hope to the countless people affected by breast cancer.

Earlier in the day, the Women and other guests walked through the principal streets of Takoradi in a procession to sensitise the public on the dangers and prevention of breast cancer. They were also taken through breast screening, blood donation, eye screening as well as other medical services.
