The Veterans Administration Ghana (VAG) has launched the 2026 Poppy Appeal with a band concert held at the VAG Clubhouse, North Ridge, Accra on Friday 2 October 2026.
Speaking at the launch, the Excetive Director of VAG, Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Seidu Mumuni Adams (Rtd) stated that ,this year’s commemoration aimed at raising funds towards the construction of district office facilities to improve the administration and welfare services provided to veterans and their families.

Brig Gen Adams further noted the initiative would focus on providing permanent office accommodation in districts where the Administration currently operates from inadequate facilities. He appealed to individuals, corporate organisations and the general public to support the appeal through the purchase of poppies and donations, stressing that the contributions would help honour the sacrifices of veterans and provide them with improved support.
The Guest of Honour, Minister for Defence, Honourable (Hon) Kenneth Gilbert Adjei in his remarks, emphasised the global significance of the Poppy as a symbol of sacrifice, service and remembrance highlighting the need to preserve the legacy of Ghana’s surviving pre-independence veterans, whose numbers continue to decline.

He noted that their experiences and sacrifices, including service during the Second World War, form an important part of the country’s military history.
Hon Adjei further called for veterans’ welfare to be treated as a national responsibility, stressing the need for continued support in areas including healthcare and welfare assistance. He also urged the media, schools and cultural institutions to document and share the stories of veterans with younger generations, while reaffirming government’s commitment to promoting their welfare and dignity.

As part of the fundraising, donations were made by the Ministry of Defence and the Military High Command in support of the 2026 Poppy Appeal launch.
The Director of Administration VAG, Major Amadu Anicks Lawson Dinko (Rtd) on behalf of VAG management expressed appreciation to the Minister, the Military High Command, corporate organisations, partners, the media and the general public for their contributions to the Association.
