
VICTIMS OF 6 AUGUST ADANSI HELICOPTER CRASH HONOURED WITH STATE FUNERAL AND MILITARY BURIAL
The Government and people of Ghana have honoured the eight victims of the tragic Adansi helicopter crash with a solemn State Funeral held at the Black Star Square on Friday 15 August 2025.
Two of the victims, Dr Alhaji Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed and Alhaji Muniru Mohammed were laid to rest earlier in accordance with Islamic tradition. The remaining six were honoured with a state funeral service followed by interment at the Military Cemetery.
The ceremony brought together Government officials, personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces and sister security services, bereaved families and other sympathisers in a united show of grief and respect. Emotional tributes were read to signify the victims’ dedication, selfless service and commitment to the nation.
In his address, the President of the Republic, the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, announced the posthumous promotion of the three crew members. Squadron Leader Peter Baafemi Anala has been promoted to the rank of Wing Commander, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu to Flight Lieutenant and Sergeant Mensah Addo Ernest to Flight Sergeant.
The President also announced the setting up of a Children Support Fund to cover the educational needs, medical insurance and essential living expenses of the victims’ children from primary to tertiary level. He commended Stanbic Bank who has already pledged GH₵500,000 towards the fund.
At the Military Cemetery, wreaths were laid on behalf of the Government and people of Ghana, Ministry of Defence, Ghana Armed Forces and families of the deceased which marked a touching farewell to the fallen heroes.
