AFB-TAK HOLDS MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS SEMINAR FOR AIRMEN

A mental health awareness seminar has been held for personnel at the Hanger 1 Air Force Base, Takoradi on Thursday 8 August 2024,. 

 

The seminar was to educate personnel on the need to seek professional help when experiencing mental health illness.

 

 

Interacting with personnel, the Clinical Psychologist of 2 Medical Reception Station, Naval Lieutenant Ewuradjoa Kumi-Kyereme emphasised that mental illness could be as a result of biological factors, environmental factors and a combination of both. She continued that, there were over 600 different mental illness and women were more prone to mental illness more than men, but men experience extreme cases of mental illness.

 

 

She was of the view that, many of the ailment plaguing personnel was as a result of mental health disorders and took the opportunity to advice all military personnel against substance abuse, alcoholism and putting people on the spot because these behaviours had the tendency of triggering mental illness.  

 

 

She advised personnel to practice healthy coping mechanisms such as intentional rest, relaxation and always seeking professional help.

 

 

Present at the gathering were the Acting Base Commander, Air Force Base Takoradi, Group Captain SY Agbenyefia, Commanding Officer, Air Force Recruit Training School, Wing Commander NS Naab, Officers, Air men and Defence Civilian Staff.
