AIR FORCE HOLDS CANDLELIGHT VIGIL FOR VICTIMS OF Z9 HELICOPTER CRASH

On Tuesday 12 August 2025, a candlelight vigil was held at the Air Force Base Accra in memory of the tragic Z9 helicopter crash victims.

 

The event, filled with sorrow and heartfelt tributes, brought together serving and retired officers, airmen, bereaved families and sympathisers to eulogize the fallen heroes.

 

The Base Commander, Air Force Base Accra, Air Commodore Elvis King Arneson, in his address described the vigil as a symbolic gesture to honour the bravery, dedication and selflessness of the gallant men.

 

‎He praised their integrity and sense of purpose in the discharge of their duties.

 

 

‎Air Commodore Arneson, assured the bereaved families of continued support from the Government and the Military High Command.

 

The ‎Deputy Defence Minister, Honourable Ernest Brogya Gyemfi described the victims as patriots who embodied the highest ideals of service, sacrifice and devotion. He stated that their loss was a deep wound to the nation but urged all to see their legacy as a call to duty and selfless service.

 

‎The Director General Religious Affairs of the Ghana Armed Forces, Brigadier General Benjamin Godson Kumi-Woode, drew on the theme "God is for us and nothing can be against us" to comfort the nation, the Armed Forces and the bereaved families. ‎He urged all to take heart and trust in God’s control, despite the tragedy.

 

‎The evening ended with a symbolic lighting of candles which reflects the nation’s grief and enduring respect for its fallen heroes.
