AFRTS WELCOMES NEW COMMANDING OFFICER AT CHANGE OF COMMAND CEREMONY

A Change of Command ceremony has taken place at the Air Force Recruit Training School (AFRTS), with Wing Commander Newman Suhuba Naab handing over command to Squadron Leader Benoni Nii Ayi Okine. The ceremony was held on Monday, 2 March 2026 at the Air Force Base Takoradi.

 

 

The Base Commander of Air Force Base Takoradi, Air Commodore Eric Yirenkyi, superintended the signing of the handover and takeover notes at the Base Headquarters. He commended Wing Commander Naab for his professionalism, dedication, and distinguished service to both the Base and the Ghana Air Force. He also wished him well in his next appointment.

 

 

Air Commodore Yirenkyi urged the newly appointed Commanding Officer to embrace the responsibilities and challenges that accompany the role and pledged his full support to ensure the continued success of the school.

 

 

In his farewell address, the outgoing Commanding Officer, Wing Commander Naab, noted that leadership is not a solitary endeavour but a shared responsibility. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve alongside officers and non-commissioned officers of high professional standards, stating that together they had upheld the proud traditions of the Ghana Armed Forces.

 

 

 

He emphasised that the strength of the training school lies in its discipline, quality instruction, and the dedication of its personnel. He commended the instructors, administrative, medical, logistics, maintenance, catering, security staff, and clerks for their professionalism and unwavering commitment, which contributed significantly to the success of his tenure. He appealed to them to extend the same level of support and cooperation to his successor.

 

 

In his acceptance speech, Squadron Leader Okine acknowledged the weight of responsibility entrusted to him and the critical role AFRTS plays in shaping and developing personnel for the Service. He expressed his commitment to sustaining and enhancing the standards already established at the school.

 

 

He assured staff of his dedication to discipline, professionalism, and teamwork, adding that with their cooperation and collective effort, the school would continue to progress in fulfilling its mandate.

 

 

Present at the ceremony were the Acting Flying Group Commander and Commanding Officer, Air Traffic Management, Wing Commander Clara Oduro-Gyamfi, the Commanding Officer Administration Wing, Wing Commander Abdul Aziz Sherif Mustapha, the Commanding Officer Engineering Wing, Squadron Leader Kofi Jim-Fugar as well as Officers, Senior Warrant Officers among others.
