A delegation from the National Sports Authority (NSA), in collaboration with the World Bowls Federation, led by its President Mr. Brett O’Riley, paid a courtesy visit to the Air Force Headquarters on Wednesday, 25 June 2025.
The visit aimed to formally invite the Ghana Air Force (GAF) to participate in the upcoming launch of Ghana Bowls, a new initiative to promote the sport of bowls in the country. The launch is scheduled to take place on Thursday, 26 June 2025, at the Accra Sports Stadium.
During the interaction, Mr. O’Riley highlighted the impressive reputation of the Ghana Armed Forces in the realm of sports, particularly in producing high-performing and competitive athletes. He further noted that following the official launch, the federation intends to introduce the sport to schools across the country. According to him, this initiative will be pivotal in nurturing grassroots interest and fostering the growth of bowls into a widely recognised sport in Ghana.
Welcoming the delegation, the Deputy Chief Staff Officer (Administration) at the Air Force Headquarters, Air Commodore Sophia Adzo Jiagge, commended the NSA and the World Bowls Federation for what she described as a laudable initiative.
She reaffirmed the Ghana Armed Forces’ unwavering commitment to the development and promotion of sports in the country. Air Commodore Jiagge expressed optimism that the launch of bowls would be embraced with enthusiasm and eventually lead to the establishment of a strong national team with active participation from GAF personnel.
