PARTICIPANTS OF SQUADRON COMMANDERS COURSE VISIT RED CLAY STUDIO IN TAMALE

In the heart of Tamale is the Red Clay Studio, an intrinsically and magnificent display of artworks curated by the internationally acclaimed artist and founder, Mr Ibrahim Mahama. Participants of the Squadron Commanders Course 1/2024 visited this art space led by the Commander, Air Force Training Command, Air Commodore Mathias Awuah on Saturday 17 August 2024.

The art space and gallery feature exhibition works by Ibrahim Mahama paying homage to Ghana’s past and present.  Some of the artworks included the non-orientable Nkansah, an artwork featuring a collection of “shoe maker “boxes, a tableau of different Ghanaian fabrics and an interesting catalogue of medical stretchers from the Second World War.

A vast space of architectural designs known as the “ghost parliament”, a large classroom filled with old school black writing boards and sewing machines were also intriguing. The architectural designs housing these artworks were also a fascinating sight to behold.

Piquing the interest of visitors were also the collections and relics from the colonial era bringing to life, the evolution of Ghana’s history. A museum of old aircraft, railway tracks and trains paint a glimmer of hope for people in the Northern Regions who have never seen these inventions to experience them up close.

The Red Clay Studio is arguably one of the best art creations offering visitors a cursory look and appreciation for the evolution of Ghana. The visit ended with participants of the Squadron Commanders Course having deep appreciation for artworks brought to life through the works of Mr Ibrahim Mahama. It was refreshing after two-weeks of intense class room lectures and the memories of this visit will linger on for a long time.

Kudos to the Air Force Training Command for putting together a comprehensive course package.
