Air Force Base Takoradi on Thursday 6 August, 2026 held a solemn remembrance service at the Presby Methodist Church in honour of the eight victims who lost their lives in the tragic Ghana Air Force Z9 helicopter crash at Adansi Krofrom in the Ashanti Region.

Three Ghana Air Force personnel namely; Wing Commander Peter Baafemi Anala, Flight Lieutenant Manaen Twum Ampadu, and Flight Sergeant Ernest Mensah Addo, were among those who perished alongside five government officials in the unfortunate crash. The service brought together military personnel to celebrate the lives and sacrifices of the departed and to offer prayers for their eternal rest.

Addressing the congregation, the Base Commander, Air Force Base Takoradi, Air Commodore Eric Yirenkyi paid glowing tributes to the fallen personnel, describing them as dedicated professionals who served the nation with honour, courage and unwavering commitment. He said their passing was a painful loss not only to the Ghana Air Force but also to the Ghana Armed Forces and the nation as a whole.

The Base Commander noted that although the loss of the three servicemen had left an irreplaceable void within the Air Force family, their exemplary service, professionalism and selfless sacrifice would continue to inspire both serving and future generations of military personnel. He urged the bereaved families to draw strength from the lasting legacy of their loved ones and assured them of the continued support of the Ghana Air Force during their period of mourning.

Delivering the sermon, the Officiating Minister, Rev Father Captain Benjamin Danso reminded the congregation that life was a precious gift from God and encouraged all present to live lives of purpose and service. He urged the bereaved families and colleagues of the deceased to remain steadfast in faith, trusting God to grant them comfort and strength in their moment of grief.

The solemn service featured scripture readings, congregational hymns, prayers and a minute of silence in memory of the departed whose sacrifice remained a testament to the dedication and commitment required in the service of the nation.
