AIR FORCE BASE TAMALE CELEBRATES 2025 WASSA
The Air Force Base Tamale has successfully held its 2025 West African Soldiers’ Social Activities (WASSA) at the Administration Wing Gardens on Thursday, 8 January 2026. The event provided a prestigious platform to reflect on the achievements of the past year and to celebrate the collective resilience of the Ghana Air Force.

Activities commenced with an inter-wing sports competition at the Base Sports Complex, which fostered healthy rivalry and strengthened camaraderie among officers, airmen, Defence Civilian Staff and the wider 6 Garrison community.

In his welcome address, the Base Commander, Air Commodore Nana Adu-Gyamfi, described the occasion as more than a social gathering, but a reaffirmation of the enduring bonds of brotherhood and unity that defined the Ghana Air Force. He highlighted the Base’s critical role in safeguarding Ghana’s northern airspace amid evolving sub-regional security challenges. The Commander commended personnel whose dedication significantly contributed to the Base’s operational effectiveness over the year and led the gathering in a minute of silence in honour of fallen comrades. He concluded by urging personnel to approach the new year with unwavering discipline and a renewed commitment to the core values of integrity and service.

The immediate past Deputy Chief of Staff (Medical), Major General Raymond Ewusi (Rtd), who served as the Guest of Honour, commended the Base for its vigilance in protecting the northern frontiers, particularly through aerial surveillance and logistical transport, which he noted are essential to national stability. He outlined a forward-looking vision centred on modernisation through the acquisition of advanced platforms, expansion of critical infrastructure and enhanced specialised training. Emphasising the human dimension of military service, he stressed that a soldier’s health remains their most valuable asset, advocating a culture of mutual care to sustain peak operational performance. He concluded by expressing appreciation to the families of personnel for their unwavering support.

A highlight of the ceremony was the awards presentation, during which individuals and groups were recognised for exceptional performance and dedication throughout 2025. Corporal Bimpong Moses was adjudged the Overall Best Airman for the year and was presented with a citation in recognition of his professionalism and outstanding devotion to duty.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the Chief Staff Officer at Air Force Headquarters, the Commander of the Air Force Training Command, the Director of Administration at Air Force Headquarters, Commanding Officers from 6 Garrison and Senior Officers from Air Force Headquarters. Representatives from sister security services, the Air Wives Organisation (AWO) and corporate partners, including Société Générale Ghana and the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, were also present.
