AIR WIVES ORGANISATION LAUNCHES 2025 BREAST CANCER AWARENESS CAMPAIGN
The Air Wives Organisation (AWO) officially launched its 2025 Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign and Health Talk programme on Friday, 10 October 2025, under the theme “Every Story is Unique, Every Journey Matters.”
The annual initiative seeks to educate women and young girls on the importance of early detection and regular screening as vital steps in reducing the risks associated with breast cancer. This year’s programme also emphasised the importance of maintaining healthy lifestyles through regular exercise and abstaining from smoking, both of which are known to influence breast cancer risk.
In her address, Mrs Fanny Agyen-Frempong, Patron of the AWO, urged women to unite and support one another in the fight against breast cancer. She underscored that while breast cancer remains one of the leading causes of death among women worldwide, early detection significantly improves survival rates. Mrs Agyen-Frempong further encouraged participants to make screening a year-round commitment, not just an activity limited to October, the awareness month.
Highlighting the broader social impact of the disease, Mrs Agyen-Frempong noted that the effects of breast cancer extend beyond the individual, affecting families and the wider community. She therefore called for collective efforts in awareness creation, advocacy, and support for those undergoing treatment.
As part of the event, the audience had the privilege of hearing from Miss Mariam Ablah Anani, a breast cancer survivor, who shared her inspiring personal journey of resilience and hope. Her story served as a reminder of the importance of perseverance, faith, and community support in the recovery process. Additionally, health professionals from the 37 Military Hospital were on-site to conduct free breast cancer screening exercises and provide expert advice on preventive healthcare practices.
The event launch brought together a cross-section of the Air Force community, including the Accra Base Commander, Air Commodore Elvis King Arneson, senior officers, airmen and airwomen, the President and Executives of AWO, the Magajia, and Defence Civilian Staff.
