The Takoradi Branch of the Air Wives Organisation (AWO) commemorated its 2026 Breast Cancer Awareness Day on Saturday, 17 October 2026 at the Air Force Medical Centre, Air Force Base Takoradi under the theme, “Early Detection, Effective Treatment.”

The event formed part of efforts to promote breast cancer awareness, encourage early detection and educate participants on the importance of regular breast health checks.
In her welcome address, the Patron of AWO Takoradi Branch, Mrs Eugenia Huni Antwi, highlighted the importance of coming together to promote awareness of breast cancer. She encouraged members to take advantage of such initiatives to improve their knowledge of the disease and support efforts aimed at promoting healthy living.

The Guest of Honour, Mrs Alberta Brachie, in her remarks, underscored the importance of breast cancer awareness and early detection in reducing the impact of the disease. She encouraged women to prioritise their health, seek medical attention when they notice unusual changes in their breasts, and participate in regular health screening.

She further emphasised the need for sustained education and collective efforts to address misconceptions surrounding breast cancer and encourage those affected to seek timely medical care and support.

Earlier in the day, there was a health float through the principal streets of Takoradi to promote awareness and support the well-being of AWO members and the wider community.
Participants were taken through sensitisation talks from nutritionists, psychologists and survivors of breast cancer, who highlighted the importance of education, early detection and collective action in the fight against breast cancer.
