CAS PAYS THREE-DAY WORKING VISIT TO AIR FORCE BASE TAKORADI

The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Eric Agyen-Frempong, paid a three-day working visit to Air Force Base Takoradi from Wednesday 22 to Friday 24 April 2026.

During the visit, the CAS received comprehensive briefings on the operational readiness and general state of the Base. He also addressed a durbar of all ranks, where he outlined ongoing efforts to enhance the Ghana Air Force's operational capabilities despite prevailing economic and global challenges.

Air Vice Marshal Agyen-Frempong disclosed that deliberate steps were being taken to retool the Service with modern aircraft platforms, including the H175 and H160 helicopters, as well as the Falcon 6X, to augment the ageing fleet. He further noted that plans were underway to expand the fleet with additional platforms, while refurbishing and upgrading existing assets in the coming years to improve overall operational readiness.

On broader military development, the CAS highlighted that the Ghana Armed Forces had rolled out an expansion plan aimed at addressing operational gaps. He revealed that a Forward Operating Base under the Tactical Air Command is already operational at Bui, with additional bases planned for the Savannah, Oti and Bono Regions.

Addressing welfare concerns, Air Vice Marshal Agyen-Frempong acknowledged the accommodation challenges within the Service and assured personnel that measures were being implemented to improve infrastructure across bases. He reiterated that personnel welfare remains a top priority and pointed to ongoing initiatives aimed at enhancing living conditions.

He further encouraged personnel to support the Ghana Armed Forces Trust Fund, emphasising that the scheme provides essential financial support to families in the event of the demise of a serviceman or woman.

On career progression, the CAS stressed that promotions would continue to be merit-based, guided by established military standards such as the Basic Fitness Test (BFT). He underscored the importance of physical fitness in ensuring operational effectiveness, boosting morale, and building resilience among personnel.

As part of the visit, the CAS interacted with instructors at the Air Force Recruit Training School (AFRTS), urging them to uphold high training standards and serve as role models for recruits by instilling discipline, professionalism, resilience and teamwork.

The Chief of the Air Staff, accompanied by his delegation, also inspected key projects at the Base, including the new Ambulance Unit, the Air Force Medical Reception Station, and other ongoing infrastructural developments.

The delegation included the Director Administration, Group Captain Zenabu Yakubu, Director Supply, Group Captain Mark Odarlai France, Director Engineering, Group Captain Yaw Gyimah, Project Officer, Air Force Headquarters, Squadron Leader Edward Annan and Master Air Warrant Officer Bawa Abdullai.
