In a continued demonstration of respect and appreciation for distinguished service, the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Eric Agyen Frempong, led a delegation from Air Force Headquarters (AFHQ) to pay a courtesy call on the former Chief of the Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Edward Apau Mantey (Rtd), at his residence on Wednesday, 10 June 2026.
The visit formed part of the Ghana Air Force’s ongoing engagement with retired senior officers and was aimed at checking on their well-being, recognising their invaluable contributions to the Service, and reaffirming the Air Force’s commitment to strengthening the bond between past and present leadership. The initiative also seeks to foster cordial relations with retired personnel while preserving the rich institutional heritage and traditions of the Service.
During the interaction, AVM Edward Apau Mantey (Rtd) expressed his profound appreciation to the CAS and the delegation for the thoughtful initiative and kind gesture of reaching out to former senior officers of the Ghana Air Force. He noted that such engagements strengthen the bond between serving and retired personnel while fostering a sense of belonging among veterans of the Service.

Drawing from his years of experience in service, AVM Edward Apau Mantey (Rtd) underscored the need to revive strategic airstrips across the country to facilitate the safe and efficient landing of aircraft and enhance national air mobility. He recalled that during his tenure, approximately eighteen airstrips were operational and played a significant role in supporting air operations nationwide. In response, the Chief of the Air Staff, AVM Eric Agyen Frempong, acknowledged the Government’s commitment, as well as the Air Force’s ongoing efforts, towards the rehabilitation of strategic airstrips across the country. He noted that significant progress had been made on key airstrips, including Bui, Atebubu, Mole, Yendi, Bolgatanga and Dambai, which are expected to enhance air operations and improve accessibility to various parts of the country. He further highlighted the progress made by the Takoradi Training School, stating that the institution has become more effective in organising professional and career development courses for Air Force personnel, thereby enhancing their competence and operational readiness.

The CAS expressed his sincere appreciation to AVM Edward Apau Mantey (Rtd) for the warm reception accorded to him and his delegation at the residence. He thanked the former senior officer for his invaluable contributions to the growth and development of the Ghana Air Force and commended him for his continued interest in the welfare and progress of the Service.
