The Falcon Squadron of the Air Force Recruit Training School (AFRTS) Course 1/2026 has emerged as the overall champions of the 2026 AFRTS Inter-Squadron Novice Boxing Competition, held at the School in Takoradi, from Monday, 10 to Friday, 14 August 2026.

The week-long competition brought together recruits from the Falcon, Diamond, Casa and MI-17 Squadrons, who competed in various boxing categories to demonstrate the physical fitness, discipline, courage and fighting skills acquired through their military training.

Delivering the closing remarks, the Guest of Honour and Acting Flying Group Commander, Wing Commander Archibald Nana Opoku, commended the recruits for their determination, discipline and sportsmanship displayed throughout the competition.

He described the tournament as an important component of military training, and noted that such activities helped develop courage, resilience, teamwork and mental toughness among recruits. He congratulated the award winners and encouraged them to remain humble in victory, while urging those who did not win to take pride in their efforts and continue striving for excellence.

Wing Commander Opoku also expressed appreciation to the organisers, officials, instructors and medical personnel for their roles in ensuring the successful conduct of the competition. He further acknowledged MOBI Crane Ltd for providing floodlights which contributed to the safe and successful execution of the event.

At the end of the competition, Recruit Addah Victor of MI-17 Squadron was adjudged the Best Male Boxer, while Recruit Nartey Rebecca of Falcon Squadron emerged Best Female Boxer.

The Gallant Loser awards went to Recruit Mensah William of Diamond Squadron in the male category and Recruit Dadzie Charlotte of Falcon Squadron in the female category.

In the overall standings, Falcon Squadron topped the competition with 185 points, followed closely by Diamond Squadron with 180 points. Casa Squadron placed third with 170 points, while MI-17 Squadron finished fourth with 150 points.
