Air Force Training Command (AFTRAC) has commenced a six-week Flight Commanders’ Course aimed at strengthening the leadership, command and operational capabilities of officers of the Ghana Armed Forces.

The course commenced on Wednesday, 19 August 2026, at the Ghana Air Force Aviation College (GHAFAC), with 24 participants comprising 23 officers drawn from various Bases of the Ghana Air Force and one officer from the Ghana Navy.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Deputy Commander, Air Force Training Command, Group Captain Yaw Nsiah-Boakye, urged participants to take full advantage of the course to sharpen their leadership, decision-making and operational skills.

He noted that the evolving nature of modern military operations required officers who could lead effectively, think critically and strategically and make sound decisions, particularly under challenging operational conditions.

Group Captain Nsiah-Boakye also encouraged the participants to actively engage with their instructors, share experiences and learn from one another throughout the course. He emphasised that such interaction would enrich the learning experience and broaden their professional perspectives.

He stressed that the course was not only intended to impart knowledge but also to develop competent and confident officers capable of assuming greater command responsibilities and contributing effectively to the operational objectives of the Ghana Armed Forces.

The six-week course is expected to enhance the professional competencies of participants and adequately prepare them for the leadership, administrative and operational responsibilities associated with flight command.

Group Captain Nsiah-Boakye expressed confidence that, by the end of the course, participants would be better equipped to discharge their responsibilities effectively and contribute meaningfully to the continued development and operational effectiveness of the Ghana Air Force.
