The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), together with other security services, has held a Security Services Day of Prayer to seek God’s guidance, protection and intervention for the nation and personnel entrusted with its security.

The event, held on Thursday, 8 October 2026, at the Garrison Methodist Presbyterian Church, Burma Camp, brought together personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces and sister security services under the theme, “Blessed is the Nation Whose God is the Lord,” taken from Psalm 33:12.

Delivering a speech as Guest of Honour, the Minister for Defence, Honourable Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, commended the Director General of Religious Affairs and the leadership of the Ghana Military Christian Fellowship for organising the spiritual exercise.

He said the theme underscored the importance of recognising that the strength and prosperity of a nation went beyond its material resources, military capability, economic power and technological advancement, but also depended on its relationship with God and its commitment to righteousness, justice and peace.

Honourable Adjei noted that the GAF and sister security services occupied a unique position in Ghana’s national life, with the responsibility of safeguarding the country’s territorial integrity, maintaining law and order, supporting national development and contributing to regional peace and stability.

He stressed that such responsibilities required professionalism, discipline, integrity, a strong sense of duty and sound moral values.

According to him, although equipment, training and technology remained essential to operational effectiveness, personnel also required divine wisdom, courage, strength and resilience to successfully discharge their responsibilities.

The Defence Minister called on participants to pray for the President, national leaders, personnel of the security services, their families and the peace and stability of the country.

He further assured the GAF and other security services of Government’s continued commitment to providing the necessary tools, training and welfare support to enhance operational readiness and sustain national security.

In his address, the National President of the Ghana Military Christian Fellowship, Captain (GN) Douglas Yaw Akotey, described the annual Day of Prayer as a sacred occasion for personnel to seek God’s grace for the nation, its citizens and global peace and security.

Captain (GN) Akotey said the security services had remained committed to training and preparing to confront emerging threats, while calling for divine intervention, wisdom and protection as personnel discharged their duties.

He also acknowledged the sacrifices made by men and women in uniform, particularly those who serve under difficult circumstances, and prayed for strength, healing and comfort for personnel who had suffered injuries, as well as families who had lost loved ones in the line of duty.

On his part, the Vice President, West Africa, of the Military Christian Fellowship, Brigadier General Michael Akpatsu (Rtd), also emphasised the importance of unity among the various security services.

He said the theme carried particular significance in view of the security and socio-economic challenges confronting the nation, including terrorism, violent extremism, drug trafficking, illegal mining and conflicts in some parts of the country.

He called for continued prayers for national leaders, security authorities and personnel, as well as unity among the various security services.

The prayer session also honoured fallen security personnel and remembered their families, with prayers offered for those grieving the loss of loved ones and for personnel who had sustained physical and emotional injuries in the line of duty.

As part of the programme, the 4th Pan African Conference of the Military Christian Fellowship, scheduled to be hosted in Ghana within the next two years, was officially launched.

Members of the Central Committee responsible for coordinating preparations for the conference were also inaugurated.
