SECURITY SERVICES FOSTER UNITY AND TEAMWORK AT SESSA 2026

Personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces joined their counterparts from other security agencies to participate in the Security Services Sports Activities (SESSA) Games 2026, held at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on Friday, 5 June 2026.

 

 

Held under the theme, “Working Together Through Sports,” the event brought together personnel from the various security services to promote unity, teamwork and mutual understanding through friendly sporting competition. The football games provided an opportunity for participants to strengthen professional relationships and foster the spirit of cooperation that underpins effective national security operations.

 

 

Addressing participants at the closing ceremony, the Guest of Honour and Minister for the Interior, Honourable Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, highlighted the vital role of sports in building discipline, resilience, teamwork and camaraderie among security personnel. He commended the athletes for their commitment and sportsmanship throughout the competition and encouraged them to continue upholding the highest standards of professionalism and service.

 

 

The Minister further reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to equipping and supporting the security services to enable them to carry out their responsibilities effectively. He also expressed appreciation to the organisers and planning committee for the successful execution of the games.

 

 

The tournament served as a platform for enhancing inter-service cooperation and reinforcing the bonds that exist among the country's security institutions. Beyond the competition, the event demonstrated the shared commitment of the services to unity, collaboration and the collective pursuit of national peace and security.

 

 

Teams that participated in the football competition were drawn from the Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prisons Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Immigration Service and the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority.

 

 

At the end of the tournament, the Ghana Immigration Service emerged champions in the men's category, while the Ghana Police Service secured the women's title. Both teams were presented with trophies in recognition of their outstanding performances.

 

 

Among the dignitaries present were the Chief of the Defence Staff, Lieutenant General William Agyapong, the Chief of the Army Staff, Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, the Inspector-General of Police, COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, the Comptroller-General of the Ghana Immigration Service, Mr Samuel Basintale Amadu, the Director-General of Prisons, Mrs Patience Baffoe-Bonnie Esq, the Chief of Staff at General Headquarters, Air Vice Marshal Joshua Lartei Mensah-Larkai, the Base Commander of Air Force Base Tamale, Air Commodore Nana Adu-Gyamfi and other senior officers from the participating security services.
