TAKORADI CHAPTER OF AIR WIVES ORGANISATION PROMOTES BREAST CANCER AWARENESS

As part of activities marking this year’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Takoradi Chapter of the Air Wives Organisation (AWO) held a Breast Cancer Awareness Programme at the Medical Reception Centre of the Air Force Base Takoradi on Saturday, 18 October 2025.

Organised under the theme “Early Detection, Effective Treatment,” the event featured a series of impactful activities, including a health walk through some principal streets of Takoradi. This was followed by a sensitisation session on breast and cervical cancers, blood donation, as well as free screening exercises at the medical centre.

In her keynote address, the Guest of Honour and Chief Patron of AWO, Mrs Fanny Agyen-Frempong, highlighted the importance of continuous awareness creation, early detection, and regular screening in combating breast cancer. She called for stronger community support for individuals and families affected by the disease, urging society to break the stigma, foster compassion, and consider avenues for financial assistance to patients undergoing treatment.

Mrs Agyen-Frempong further emphasised the need to create safe and supportive environments for women living with cancer. She encouraged participants to become advocates for awareness and change within their communities. The Patron of AWO Takoradi, Mrs Susana Yirenkyi, in her remarks, described the theme as a timely reminder for all to remain vigilant about the early signs and symptoms of breast and cervical cancers. She noted that awareness, education, and timely medical intervention are critical to improving survival rates and enhancing the quality of life of those affected.

Mrs Yirenkyi also urged attendees to honour breast cancer survivors, stand united in the fight against the disease, and support one another through shared knowledge, hope, and compassion. She also presented a citation to the Chief Patron for honouring the invitation and her support to the Association.

As part of efforts to support the operations of the Medical Reception Centre, AWO made a generous donation of assorted items, including toiletries, waiting chairs, bedsheets, pillowcases, pillows, cleaning kits, medical supplies, and a PD Biotest machine, among others.

In attendance at the programme were the Base Commander, Air Cdre Eric Yirenkyi, the Naval Wives Association and personnel from the Garrison. Some sponsors of AWO included, Western Surgical, Priese, Eddymanuel, Multipark, GHPA, AA Mensah Enterprise, Abuakwah and Cowbell.
