UK ARMED FORCES COMMENCE INFORMATION OPERATIONS TRAINING FOR GAF
The United Kingdom (UK) Armed Forces have commenced an Information Operations Training Programme for the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), beginning with a one-day briefing session for senior leadership and planners on Tuesday, 7 October 2025, at the Defence Mechanical Transport Conference Room, Burma Camp.
In her opening remarks, the Acting Director General of Public Relations, Captain (Ghana Navy) Veronica Adzo Arhin, highlighted that the training marked the start of a comprehensive three-year capacity-building initiative. She explained that the programme forms part of a broader UK-Ghana defence cooperation framework aimed at strengthening GAF’s capability to employ information as a strategic instrument in advancing national security and operational objectives.
Captain Arhin emphasised that, in today’s complex security environment, effective information operations are essential for shaping perceptions, countering misinformation, and maintaining public confidence. She expressed appreciation to the UK Armed Forces for their continued support in enhancing GAF’s professional development and operational readiness.
During the session, participants were introduced to key concepts in information operations, including strategic communication, influence activities, and information assurance. The training also incorporated practical exercises designed to deepen participants’ understanding and application of information operations within contemporary military and joint operational contexts.
The programme represents a significant step toward building the Ghana Armed Forces’ institutional capacity in information operations, enabling it to respond more effectively to emerging security challenges across the information domain.
