UNMISS GHANBATT 13 EARNS PRESTIGIOUS UN MEDAL

The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Eric Agyen-Frempong, led a seven-member delegation to the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) Ghana Battalion (GHANBATT) 13 Medal Presentation Parade held on Thursday, 7 May 2026, at the battalion headquarters in Bentiu.

 

 

The colourful ceremony recognised and honoured personnel of GHANBATT 13 for their dedication, professionalism and unwavering commitment to peacekeeping operations in South Sudan. The presentation of the prestigious United Nations Medal symbolised appreciation for their diligent service and contribution towards maintaining peace and stability within the mission area.

 

 

In his address, the Reviewing Officer and Force Commander of UNMISS, Major General Junhui Wu, commended GHANBATT 13 for the high level of professionalism exhibited throughout their tour of duty. He particularly praised the battalion’s civil-military cooperation and community engagement, which he noted had significantly strengthened relations with local communities and reinforced the mission's credibility.

 

 

Major General Wu further expressed appreciation to the Government of Ghana and the Ghana Armed Forces for their continued contribution to United Nations Peacekeeping Operations through the deployment of highly disciplined and competent personnel. According to him, Ghana’s commitment reflects the country’s strong support for international peace, security, and cooperation.

 

 

The Force Commander also commended the Commanding Officer of GHANBATT 13, Lieutenant Colonel Edmund Tekpetey, for his exemplary leadership and direction, which contributed immensely to the battalion’s outstanding performance during the mission.

 

 

Among the dignitaries present at the ceremony was the Head of Field Office, Unity State, Sam Muhumure, and other senior officials of the mission.
