AIR FORCE BASE TAKORADI ORGANISES EXERCISE AMBULA CELERITER

Air Force Base Takoradi has organised a map reading and navigation competition code-named EXERCISE AMBULA CELERITER on Friday 28 June 2024.

The competition was to crown a refresher course in map reading and navigation organised by the Base at the Air Force Recruit Training School from Monday 19 to Tuesday 21 June 2024.

In her remarks, the Flying Group Commander, Group Captain Selase Agbenyefia expressed her delight in seeing the exceptional skills, teamwork and determination displayed by the various syndicates. She said, the exercise was to build the navigation skills of military personnel by helping them understand the terrain in which they operate and also enabling them to know the disposition of their troops as well as their enemies.

Group Captain Agbenyefia opined that the exercise had convinced her of the readiness of the troops to take on any battle or challenge and urged the participation of more women in such exercises in the future.

She emphasised that one of the core functions of the Ghana Air Force was to conduct search and rescue operations. Therefore, it was imperative to muster the rudiments of navigation to become effective in the discharge of duties. She added that though the advent of technological advancement had made navigation easier, it had the tendency to be unreliable, hence the need to learn and keep the rudiments of navigation.

The Flying Group Commander commended all the participants and congratulated the winners of the competition as well as stakeholders who made the entire exercise a success.

Participants representing the various wings namely Flying Group, Administration Wing, Engineering Wing and Supply Wing were divided into four syndicates. Without the aid of any modern technological gadget, the teams only received briefings, references, maps and compasses to operate.

The syndicates began their journey from the Air Force Recruit Training School and went in different directions to navigate their route through designated suburbs in Takoradi while receiving different references each time at four rendezvous points before making it back to the Air Force Recruit Training School.

At the end of the competition, the Engineering Wing placed 4th with 70 points, the Supply Wing came 3rd with 79.5 points followed by the Administration Wing who placed 2nd position with 82 points. The Flying Group emerged overall winners with 96 points.
