AIR FORCE BASE TAMALE CONDUCTS FIRST QUARTER FIRE DRILL EXERCISE
The Air Force Base Tamale as part of efforts to assess the readiness of troops in responding to fire emergencies has conducted the first quarter fire drill exercise. The exercise conducted on Thursday 30 January 2025, was aimed at evaluating troops’ response to fire outbreaks, assessing the efficacy of available fire-fighting equipment and identifying areas for enhancement in emergency protocol. It comes after a series of lectures within the week, by the fire section of the Base.
The simulation exercise entailed the activation of fire alarms across strategic locations within the Base. This action was designed to prompt an immediate response from the troops, who were required to utilize fire extinguishers and other firefighting equipment stationed at designated fire points. The timing of the exercise is particularly significant as it coincides with the harmattan season. The harmattan season markedly heighten the risk of bushfires, making it imperative for the troops to be well-prepared and vigilant.
The Base Commander, Air Commodore Joshua Lartei Mensah-Larkai extended his congratulations to the supervisory team and troops for the successful execution of the exercise. He underscored the necessity of such drills and the valuable insights they provide into the current state of fire preparedness among the troops. He also noted that the observations revealed critical gaps that must be addressed to improve the overall emergency response. He emphasized that implementing the recommendations will significantly enhance the preparedness of troops, ensuring a more coordinated, organized, and confident approach in the event of fire emergencies on the Base.
