GAF COMMEMORATES 80TH REMEMBRANCE DAY ANNIVERSARY
The Ghana Armed Forces, together with sister security services on Tuesday, 11 November 2025, observed the 80th Remembrance Day Anniversary with a military parade and wreath-laying ceremony at the Christiansborg War Cemetery, Accra.

Remembrance Day is commemorated annually to honour the gallant men and women who lost their lives during the First and Second World Wars. In contemporary times, the day also pays tribute to all service personnel who have fallen in the line of duty in various conflicts and peace support operations around the world, including Ghana.

The occasion, which is observed across Commonwealth nations and some non-Commonwealth countries, reflects the shared commitment to preserve the memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice for peace and freedom.

The President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, was the Guest of Honour and laid the first wreath on behalf of the Government and people of Ghana. Supporting wreaths were laid by the Chief of the Defence Staff, Lieutenant General William Agyapong, the British High Commissioner, the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, the Chairman of the Veterans Administration, Ghana and the Osu Alata Mantse.

Veterans from VAG were in attendance, some visibly moved as the nation paid solemn tribute to their fallen comrades who never returned home.

The ceremony featured the traditional observance of a two-minute silence, the sounding of the Last Post, and the playing of Reveille, symbolising honour, remembrance, and renewed duty to uphold the cause for which the fallen served.
