GAFTAG AND GHANA AIR FORCE DEEPEN TRAINING COLLABORATION

A delegation from the German Armed Forces Technical Advisory Group (GAFTAG) and German Force Protection Regiment, led by Lieutenant Colonel Masur, have engaged the Ghana Air Force to discuss training opportunities to build the capacity of personnel.

The meeting which took place at the Air Force Headquarters on Tuesday 21 October 2025 is aimed at strengthening collaboration between the Ghana Air Force and GAFTAG in the area of training for mutual benefit with the focus on improving skills, knowledge and technology.

The partnership also aims to build the capacity of the Special Task Unit (STU) to effectively execute their duties in force protection and elevate them to the level of “Training the Trainer”. This would enable sustained in-house training and knowledge dissemination among personnel.

Addressing the delegation, the Commander, Tactical Air Command Bui, Air Commodore Kissiedu Atiemo, emphasised the importance of continuous training and personnel development in achieving operational readiness. He noted that the collaboration would be instrumental in enhancing air-ground integration and specialised training in air operations concepts.

The Commander, Air Force Logistics Command (AFLOC), Air Commodore Benjamin Offei mentioned that logistical requirements and infrastructure are essential to ensuring a successful training programme thus called on the GAFTAG team to strengthen collaboration in addressing any logistical constraints.

On his part, Lieutenant Colonel Masur underscored the significance of knowledge exchange between the two countries. He stated that, understanding the current capabilities of the STU would inform the development of a comprehensive training programme to improve their knowledge as special task unit operatives.
