GHANA AIR FORCE STRENGTHENS GENDER MAINSTREAMING EFFORTS

The Gender Advisor at the Air Force Headquarters, Group Captain Francisca La-Anyane, has reaffirmed the Ghana Air Force and Military High Command’s commitment to gender mainstreaming during a working visit to the Air Force Base Accra on Thursday 6 February 2025.

The visit was aimed at sensitizing personnel on the importance of adopting a gender perspective in our military activities and operations.

Upon arriving at the Base, Group Captain La-Anyane first paid a courtesy call on the Base Commander, where she outlined her mission and itinerary.

This was followed by a lecture that covered topics such as gender mainstreaming, legal frameworks and policies as well as addressing common misconceptions about gender mainstreaming.

A key highlight of her presentation was the Elsie Initiative and Elsie Initiative Fund, a Canadian Initiative which seeks to support the meaningful participation of women in peace support operations. She emphasised that the Ghana Armed Forces is taking deliberate steps to promote gender mainstreaming, ensuring equal opportunities for both men and women in executing their duties.

Group Captain La-Anyane also announced that measures were being put in place to tackle issues such as sexual harassment, which can hinder individuals from reaching their full potential. She revealed that a sexual harassment policy  and reporting procedure is yet to be developed soon to address such concerns effectively.

At the end of the lecture, the interactive session gave personnel the opportunity to ask questions and seek clarifications on gender related matters in the military.
