GHANA ARMED FORCES HOLDS JOINT SECURITY SERVICES DAY OF PRAYER

The Ghana Armed Forces Department of Religious Affairs in collaboration with the Association of Military Christian Fellowship (AMCF) Worldwide and sister security agencies, have observed this year’s Security Services Day of Prayer at the Garrison Methodist/Presbyterian Church (GMPC), Burma Camp, on Thursday 20 November 2025.

The annual event brings together security personnel to seek God’s guidance for national peace, security, and institutional harmony. Participants were drawn from the Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Prisons Service, Ghana Immigration Service, and the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority.

In his welcome address, President of AMCF West Africa, Brigadier General Michael Akpatsu (Rtd), reminded personnel that “behind every uniform is a life, a family, and a purpose that rests in the hands of the Almighty.” He stressed that the solemn service provides an opportunity to pause, reflect, and commit the nation and its security services to God, especially in moments when systems fail and human strength is insufficient.

Delivering the sermon on the theme “Renewal of Our Minds for National Peace and Prosperity,” with scriptural reference from Romans 12:2, the Methodist Bishop of the Accra Diocese, Right Reverend Dr Samuel Nii Nmai Ollennu, emphasised the indispensable role of peace in national development. He noted that peace fosters progress, justice, and social stability, and without it, meaningful development cannot be achieved.

The Guest of Honour, Deputy Defence Minister Honourable Ernest Brogya Gyenfi, commended the Military High Command and the AMCF for organising a reflective and spiritually uplifting programme. He acknowledged the emotional toll of recent tragic events, including the 6 August 2025 helicopter crash and the El-Wak stadium stampede, which claimed 14 lives. He urged personnel not to lose hope in the face of adversity while cautioning them against complacency and preventable incidents.

In attendance were the Chief of the Defence Staff, Lieutenant General William Agyapong, Chief of Army Staff, Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Issah Adam Yakubu, Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Eric Agyen-Frempong, and other senior officers from the various security services.
