CAS OUTLINES VISION TO TRANSFORM AIR FORCE INTO A SMART ONE AT GAFCSC
The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Frederick Asare Kwasi Bekoe has outlined his vision to modernise and transform the Ghana Air Force into a SMART Air Force during a lecture at the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) at Teshie, on Wednesday 25 October 2023.
The lecture was for a total of 98 students comprising, 68 Officers from the Ghana Armed Forces and 30 Officers from 16 African countries including Nigeria, Namibia, Tanzania, Togo, Rwanda, South Africa and many others.
During his presentation, AVM FAK Bekoe emphasized on the importance of adapting to the evolving landscape of modern warfare. Recognizing the transformative potential of emerging technologies, he unveiled a comprehensive roadmap for the Ghana Air Force that incorporated elements of the SMART framework and these include, building capacity of people, equipment, Infrastructure and forming partnerships.
Additionally, he elaborated on collaborating with international partners to acquire modern and high-tech aircraft, helicopters, and other relevant accoutrement that will enhance the working conditions of the Airman. This strategic approach aims to strengthen Ghana's Air Force readiness and expand its capabilities in surveillance, reconnaissance and combat operations.
AVM FAK Bekoe also addressed the significance of training and educating personnel. He highlighted the need to invest in continuous professional development, offering specialized courses and training programs to equip personnel with the necessary skills to operate and maintain advanced technology.
The lecture received an overwhelming and positive feedback from the military Officers who also had the opportunity to ask questions during the interactive session regarding his comprehensive vision and strategic approach. Many expressed confidence that these initiatives, once implemented, would bolster Ghana's defence capabilities.
The Commandant of the College, Major General Bismark Kwesi Onwona expressed his profound appreciation to AVM FAK Bekoe, as he happened to be the first Service Chief to grace the platform of the College to deliver the lecture to both foreign and Ghanaian military Officers.
Maj Gen Onwona also stated that the lecture delivered by the CAS had been enlightening and he hoped that, it would impact positively in their lives. He also thanked CAS for a generous donation towards the infrastructural development of the College. The students and Directing Staffs later visited the Air Force Base Accra for a presentation and familiarization tour of the Base. They were then feted at the Air Force Officers Mess.
