GHANA AIR FORCE AB INITIO PILOTS EXCEL IN US FLIGHT TRAINING PROGRAM

In a significant stride towards augmenting the crew state of the Ghana Air Force, six abinitio pilots, under the guidance of Wing Commander Charles Dawoe, embarked on a flight training program at United States Aviation Training Solutions (USATS). The Crew, who departed Ghana on 28 April 2023, commenced training immediately with an intensive two-week ground school. Despite weather-related challenges which caused intermittent delays in their flying schedule, the pilots through determination forged on to give out their very best. On 16 June 2023, Pilot Officer Isaac Tuobewere Tanle achieved a significant milestone, embarking on his maiden solo flight (first unassisted and unaccompanied flight taken by a student pilot) after completing 19 hours and 12 minutes of flight training.

This paved the way for the rest of the ab-initio pilots to follow suit. Subsequently, with an average of 19 flight hours each, the remaining trainees soared through the skies independently, showcasing their newly acquired skills. The performance of the ab-initio pilots at USATS has surpassed expectations, with their exceptional accomplishments earning a rating well above average. In an interview, the crew expressed their profound gratitude to the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), AVM FAK Bekoe for the support and opportunity given them. They gave the assurance that they would uphold the standards of the Ghana Air Force. Training is still progressive and in due time, they would return home to serve mother Ghana with pride and honour.
